Ryan Reynolds, star of "Deadpool," speaks onstage at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.
If itâs up to Ryan Reynolds, his Merc With the Mouth will have the most popular bib sold at BabiesâRâUs next year.
âDeadpool,â the R-rated superhero movie that shouldnât have, rocked the crowd at San Diego Comic-Conâs famed Hall H to rapturous levels not even âBatman vs. Supermanâ or âX-Men: Apocalypseâ could manage. There was also an uproarious standing ovation, forcing an encore of the exclusive trailer.
Maybe itâs because the audience deserves a credit on the film.
âOne year ago, some a--hole leaked that footage. You guys made the studio do this; you bent their arms behind their backs,â said a proud Reynolds, referring to the test footage from a few years ago that inspired Twentieth Century Fox to revisit a project languishing in development hell. â(Deadpool) inhabits a space in the comic universe that no one else will inhabit. Itâs an absolute miracle that a studio let us make Deadpool â" let alone a Rated-R Deadpoolâ.
The castâs progression through the ongoing shooting process â" including the best script the director allegedly had ever read â" was enough to bring director Tim Miller to tears.Â
Another cast member, âSilicon Valleyâ star T.J. Miller (no relation to the director) said he would hug and rock the emotional director like âa little baby.â

Jennifer Lawrence is reprising her Mystique character for a third and final time.
âYou should direct the next Hulk. (Tim Miller) would be crying the whole timeâ"like a baby when he sees unbridled rage,â he said.
Reynolds said he had no problem being as openly mouthy on stage as the antihero he depicts on film is in the comics.
The panel also revealed the filmâs plethora of furious females. âHomelandâ and âGothamâ vet Morena Baccarin seems just the right match for Deadpoolâs crassness (âShe gives him lip right back and not exactly the talking kindâ). Former MMA champion Gina Carano thanked the director for a character role â" Angel Dust â" that gives her an outlet to release her anger issues.Â
Newcomer Briana Hildebrand, meanwhile, has no problem hiding her past infatuation for her oft-fit male lead.
âI may or may not have had a huge crush on Ryan Reynolds growing up,â the actress said.

Hugh Jackman walks onstage at the "X-Men: Apocalypse" portion of the panel.
âI was her âJoey Lawrence,ââ Reynolds quipped, before returning to his favorite subject: his fanboy love for his character.
â(Deadpool) is everything we loved about the comics. Itâs the most faithful adaptation of a super suit to a comic movie ever, (doing) the best he can to annoy everyone around him 24/7.âÂ
As for the studioâs other marquee properties, there was plenty of cheering left to go around.
âWolverineâ star Hugh Jackman didnât pop his claws, but did poke fun at having to battle time as well as on screen villains in the upcoming third standalone movie featuring the most popular X-Man.Â
âMan, have I agedâ he said. âIâve got three words for you guys: âOld Man Loganâ (referring to a fan-favorite comic storyline featuring an elderly Wolverine). Read into it which you will.â
There was also insight into âX-Men: Apocalypse,â which director Bryan Singer said âtakes place 10 years before 'Days of Future Past' (at a time when) mutants are accepted in some places, not every place.â
Of her character Mystique, Jennifer Lawrence teased: âIâm more Raven. She didnât want to be the face of a world that already didnât exist.â
And it was jarring to see James McAvoy with a fully shaved head, clearly much closer to the Charles Xavier previously played by Patrick Stewart in the first batch of X-Films.
âFull dome! Itâs nice to finally pay homage to iconic look and pay homage to it,â he said. âI donât see him as Professor X, or Charles Xavier. I just see him as Patrick Stewart. I try to make a copy. Ehhâ" I try to make him better.â
Nicholas Hoult, though echoed the thoughts of many.
âI canât concentrate because Iâm still excited about the âDeadpoolâ trailer,â he said.
