You can’t get much dumber than this. Apparently Dave Hester of Storage Wars and rapper Trey Songz have a court battle going on over who owns the right to catch phrase “Yuup!” (Yep).
You read that right, and nooope this isn’t a joke unfortunately. Recently attorneys for Songz(Tremaine Neverson) sent a cease-and-desist letter to the reality TV star demanding he stop using the catchphrase claiming it has been the rappers signature sound phrase since 2009, but he failed to trademark it.
After a quick search of trademark records it seems , Hester registered “YUUUP!” (Yep)on three occasions, dating back to this past May. Which is why the stores were star has now filed a lawsuit in an attempt to prevent the rapper from using “YUUUP!” (Yep).
Hestler also says that the two use the word entirely differently and they even sound different sane that . Songz’ version, according to the complaint, “resembles an animal-like or non-human squeal which begins with a distinct ‘yeeee’ sound before finishing with a squeal-like ‘uuuup’ sound.”
The bar is pretty high for actually successfully trademarking a sound in fact Harley-Davidson learned this the hard way a few years back. I honestly think these guys should have better things to do with their time and money than fight over sound. It’s not like anybody will ever confuse the two.

Hester just proved all the comments online about what a worthless douchebag he is. If ya can't make your money the good old fashioned way, make it on a stupidass catch phrase. Only in America.

ReplyDeleteActually if you'll go back into some of the old shows it was Barry I believe that used the phrase long before Dave "adopted" it as his own. If anybody on Storage Wars has a right to title due to first use it's not Dave.

ReplyDeleteThe phrase YUUUP! has been around longer than he has been alive and no court in there right mind can allow a person to file a patent for a catch phrase that has been used for hundreds of years. That would be like me saying the word president was mine and no one could use it ever again but me
ReplyDeleteEeeyyuuuuuuppp! Been hearing and using this since I can remember and I'm 66 years old. Spent 20 of those years on Active Duty in the Navy and another 20 working for the Navy.
