Comic Con has extended its tenure in San Diego till 2018 instead of shifting the event to Los Angeles as many feared and anticipated.
Every year, fans of comic book heroes and movies gather in the sunny town of San Diego to celebrate their love for their pop culture and superheroes. Since 1970, the city of San Diego has played host to increasing number of fans from 300 attendees in the first year, the number of which now has reached 100,000 lately.
It brings the city a revenue of $136 million dollars from the attendees every year. It has a also become a spot for flourishing and announcing various superhero and cult features movie franchises and TV shows.
NO doubt, such an extensive business would be wanted by any city. Los Angeles seemed to have tried that the event should be shifted to and hosted in Los Angeles. The Comic Con authority had committed to hold the event in San Diego till 2016. So it looked like for a little while that 2016 would be the last year for San Diego to be hosting the event.Â
The event was probable to be signed on to L.A. or Anaheim I Orange County where the Wonder Con, a similar but smaller event took place last year. The Comic Co authority has decided however to extend the honors of San Diego hosting the Comic Con till 2018.Â
According to Reuters, Mayor Kevin Faulconer of San Diego rejoiced by stating that; "Fans near and far can rejoice that their favorite superheroes and celebrities will continue to gather under the San Diego sun†while a Comic Con spokesman David Glanzer said in a statement that his group was pleased to stay in the city where the event has grown up.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti had already announced that this year’s Wonder Con would be taking place in Los Angeles and he hoped that the event in San Diego would set a perfect platform to encourage the fans to attend the smaller yet significant event in Los Angeles as well.
Fans will be gathering in San Diego till 2018 to attend their favorite event of the year except maybe the release of Star Wars.
