âThe Hunger Gamesâ franchise went out with a bang at San Diego Comic-Con by debuting the first full trailer for âMockingjay â" Part 2â³ during its Thursday, July 9 panel.
The two-minute long trailer sets up Katniss and District 13âs march against President Snow and the Capitol. âTonight, turn your weapons to the Capitol,â says Jennifer Lawrenceâs character at the end of the footage. âTurn your weapons to Snow.â
Many of the scenes invert iconic moments from the four previous movies. In one chilling sequence, Katniss leads the District 13 army toward the center of the Capitol in a way that echoes her first journey in the Parade of Tributes. In another, Katniss walks towards Snowâs house, and eyes a single white rose in his garden.
The trailer focuses on the idea of a nation united against its leaders and ready for an uprising. Thereâs always a catch with Snow, though, and the Capitol is rigged with traps similar to the ones used in the Hunger Games, many of which were teased in the trailer.

âOur lives were never ours. They belong to Snow, our deaths do too,â Peeta says. âBut if you kill him Katniss, if you end all of this, all those deaths, they mean something.â
Director Francis Lawrence says this trailer will remain exclusive to Comic-Con audiences for the time being, but will be released wide at a later date.
But the trailer wasnât the only special experience Comic-Con attendees were treated to. The panel opened with a Capitol drum line setting the mood as the lights dimmed. That introduced a District 13 propaganda ad where Katniss wore her new red Mockingjay outfit.
This will be the last year âThe Hunger Gamesâ franchise takes to the Hall H stage, as âMockingjay â" Part 2â³ hits theaters on Nov. 20, 2015. The seriesâ only other Comic-Con panel was in 2013 for âCatching Fire,â though itâs always had a presence at the convention. The cast â" Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth â" and creators clearly relished the last chance to promote âThe Hunger Gamesâ in San Diego.

âItâs been a combination of trying to really nail it and make sure itâs really satisfying to the core ⦠and to enjoy the time together while we do it,â says producer Nina Jacobson of bringing the series to a close.
Fan questions for the cast lingered on the end of the movie, particularly the epilogue. Only Lawrence and Hutcherson filmed that sequence months after shooting ended, and that took Hutcherson by surprise.
âThat was the most emotional part,â he says. âI assumed that the whole cast would be there. It was really a let down when [they werenât] there.â Lawrence admits that she cries.
When asked how much would deviate from Suzanne Collinsâ source material, the director says, âI think everyone who loves the end of the last book will love the end of this movie.â
âExcept she ends up with Gale,â Lawrence quips.
